SARASOTA, FL (Feb. 28, 2017) – Anthony Campi Racing, a powerhouse super late model team, announced today they have come to terms with Texas driver Derek Scott, Jr., to pilot the team’s racecars for select races in 2017 including a trio of events in the near future. The pairing’s first race together will be the opener for the “Show Me The Money Series” at Montgomery Motor Speedway this weekend in a pro late model.
Derek Scott, Jr., has been racing pro and super late models over the last four seasons for his family-owned team and made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut at Iowa Speedway last year. Though he experienced moderate success in marquee late model events with multiple pole positions and top-ten runs, he has been looking for the extra boost to make his way to victory lane on a regular basis. For the Scott family, Anthony Campi Racing has the potential to be that boost.
“I'm looking forward to working with a team that has proven success and a team that is as competitive as they are,” said Scott. “These guys work day in and day out to bring their best out to the racetrack and that's what I'm looking for. I feel that ACR provides these necessities that I am looking for as a racecar driver.
“Don’t get me wrong, I don't expect to light the world on fire or anything,” he continued. “As a driver, I just need to know that I can compete with the top guys and move from there. We have a limited schedule of races for now, but hopefully success will lead to further plans in the future.”
Anthony Campi Racing is no stranger to victory lane. In 2016, Campi visited victory lane with driver Cole Anderson in multiple marque events including the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, the Southern Super Series, and the annual Oktoberfest week in Wisconsin featuring the ARCA Midwest Tour. Campi recently signed Legend car standout Matt Mead to drive their pro late models at New Smyrna Speedway and adding Scott to the roster bolsters their lineup.
Anthony Campi is one of the most successful, long-term car owners in pro and super late model racing.
“We have forged a friendship with the Scott family throughout the years at the racetrack, and we’ve always been in contact and in good graces with each other,” explained Anthony Campi on how the deal came together. “When we had a spot open on our team, it seemed like a smooth and natural fit for both parties to venture in this direction. We can’t wait to have Derek in our
cars and contending for wins throughout the year. He has a lot of potential to become a household name in late model racing.”
Confirmed events for Scott in his ACR-fielded ride include the season-opener for pro late models this weekend at Montgomery Motor Speedway along with both the pro and super late model portions of the Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Other events are scheduled but have yet to be announced.
